Ausbildung zur/m Steuerfachangestellten bei Tomik + Partner:

This is also the case with the profession of tax clerk. We talked to our trainee Laura Heisig and Michael Fortmann, partner and head of training at Tomik + Partner, and learned some interesting facts.
Dear Laura, a year abroad, travel blogger, fashion influencer, social media manager, the list of professions that are in high demand among young people right now is long. So it’s often hard for young people to choose the right path for them. And yes, we also know that training as a tax specialist is not the top career choice. We think that’s wrong. What do you think?
Yes, absolutely wrongly, I can say after six months of training.
But I was also interested in other professions at first, but then I became curious and did an internship at Tomik + Partner. There are many interesting tasks and opportunities. That’s why I then found the profession very exciting and applied. It’s a great profession, and I haven’t regretted it.
What were the reasons that convinced you?
The apprenticeship is one of the best apprenticeships nationwide and is very demanding and versatile. I learn a lot about companies and the economy and have interesting contacts with different clients.
As a tax specialist, I can later work in many industries, have many opportunities for further training and am always in demand, because taxes will always exist and the tax laws are becoming more and more complex. You need experts who can keep an eye on things.
What do you think you should bring to the table when choosing a career?
A good understanding of numbers is important, even if you don’t have to calculate all day long, as many people imagine.
And a basic understanding of business can’t hurt either. For example, I took my Abitur at a commercial high school because I knew I wanted to learn a commercial profession. So I already bring business knowledge with me, which now helps me to quickly get to grips with the issues.
There are many law firms, why did you choose Tomik + Partner?
It was important to me that the firm is modern and that there is a nice, young team. I found that at Tomik + Partner.
The colleagues are all open and helpful. I was integrated into the team right from the start, I was given tasks that I can work on independently, and so I take on a certain amount of responsibility right from the start. I can ask my questions at any time.
I also think it’s great that we do almost everything digitally here. We don’t sit behind huge mountains of files, as some people might still imagine. All documents are digital and even the exchange of data with clients is completely paperless.
I was also convinced by the fact that Tomik + Partner is one of the largest law firms in the region and that we have very diverse clients. I find it very interesting to be part of the team and support our clients.
What does a normal working day look like for you?
I get a coffee, check my e-mails. Then I coordinate with my colleague what’s coming up today. Then I book or have her explain certain tasks and processes to me. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I have vocational school at Rudolf Rempel Berufskolleg in Bielefeld. At the moment, the lessons are online. That’s okay, but it’s nicer to see my classmates live.
That all sounds great, Laura, but let’s be honest: Is there anything you don’t like so much?
Sure, but I think that happens in every profession. There are a few trainee tasks that I have to motivate myself to do. That’s just part of it. But all in all, the positives outweigh the negatives, and I’m glad I chose this path.
How do you see your future?
I’m only in my first year of training, so I’m primarily thinking about completing my training well. After that, I would like to work in my profession. I can also imagine studying. It works very well as a dual study program. There are 5 colleagues in our firm who are now studying part-time after their training. This can be combined very well and Tomik + Partner also supports this very well.
For me, the training is a good start to my professional life with many opportunities for further training. Let’s see what’s still to come.

Wir freuen uns immer über aufgeweckte und interessierte Praktikanten/innen, die sich in unserem Kanzleialltag ausprobieren wollen.
Welche Perspektiven haben junge Menschen, wenn sie sich für den Beruf entscheiden?
Als Steuerfachangestellte/r hat man viele tolle Zukunftsperspektiven. So kann man später Steuerfachwirt werden, Betriebswirtschaft studieren oder Steuerberater werden. Für sehr ambitionierte junge Menschen geht das auch gleichzeitig.
Steuerfachangestellte werden immer und überall gebraucht und finden deshalb immer eine Anstellung. Sei es in einer Kanzlei oder auch in der freien Wirtschaft.
Das sind Perspektiven, die es so in nicht vielen Ausbildungsberufen gibt.
