With Tomik + Partner "Master Tax Law and Tax Administration (LL.M.)".

There are many career and entry opportunities in the law firm Tomik + Partner. A particularly popular option for young people who want to develop is dual studies. A total of five employees at Tomik + Partner study part-time. With one of them, we have completed the highly recognized Master's degree programme in our industry in Tax Law and Tax Administration (LL.M.). Erkan Karaman is in the 4th semester and lets us participate in his decision and his daily study and professional life.

Mr Karaman, there are many courses of study, why did you choose it?

After my Bachelor of Laws with a focus on tax law at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, it quickly became clear to me that I would like to further qualify in this area. That's why I qualified for the dual Master's degree in Tax Law and Tax Administration (LL.M.) at the TH Köln.

Within 2.5 years, I have received the academic degree of the "Master of Laws" (LL.M.) and prepare me for the tax consultant exam at the same time. And all this without additional time or additional costs. That convinced me.

I am currently in the 4th semester, so I'm virtually on the home straight for the Master's exam and the tax consultant exam. The next few months will be very intensive, but it is worth it.

How is the degree programme structured, what are the entry requirements and what is the importance of graduation in our industry?

It is a fully integrated study concept. This means that the content relevant for the tax consultant examination is optimally integrated into the module teaching at the TH in terms of time and content. Therefore, no extra preparatory courses need to be attended.

Admission requirements for this course of study are either a university degree with an economic or tax/legal component, a first state examination in law or a university degree of any subject and one and a half years of professional experience with a professional connection.

I have registered for this at the TH Köln, which offers the course of study in cooperation with Dr. Bannas GmbH. But there are also several other providers.

The course of study is still relatively young. It was first offered in Munich nine years ago.

However, it is now one of the highest degrees that can be achieved in our industry and is internationally recognised.

In addition to your studies, you also work as an assistant at the law firm Tomik + Partner. That sounds very ambitious. How well do studies and work work side by side?

I work in the firm from Monday to Wednesday and am entrusted with a wide range of tax matters in practice, which complements my theory very well. Thursdays and Fridays are my lecture days. These are currently taking place online. Otherwise I always go to Cologne to the TH. It's a lot of driving, but I really like seeing the fellow students, exchanging ideas and learning together. I like to take the rides on me. I often also stayed in Cologne.

Of course, it is not always easy to reconcile study and work. But I knew beforehand what was coming and i made a conscious decision to do so. Education is very important to me and I want to achieve as much as possible in the shortest possible time. That's what I like to do.

At the same time, I can also finance my life and already get a lot of professional practice. It doesn't get any better for me.

Why did you choose to join to the law firm Tomik + Partner?

It helps a lot with dual studies to have an employer who supports you in the best possible way – also financially – and gives you the necessary freedom to learn and give lectures. I get all that here.

After my bachelor's degree, I have already applied here with the project to start the dual studies. In contrast to many other law firms, the partners here are very open-minded when it comes to enabling employees to continue their education and studies. I think that is very good.

When I have my time at university, I do not need to go to the office and Am not confronted with questions or e-mails from everyday work. This allows me to concentrate fully on my work during my working days and on my studies during my studies.

It is also important to me that I get an insight into many areas of the law firm and that I can deal with many exciting technical questions in practice. As a result, I gain a wide range of knowledge and can be used in many ways later.

Why do you think Tomik + Partner is so committed to the dual study and further education of his team?

The importance and responsibility of employees in the taxes and auditing sectors has grown steadily in recent years. The increasingly complex tax laws require enormous expertise. In view of the high quality standards of the law firm, it is very important to the partners at Tomik + Partner that the clients are looked after by a highly qualified team. They like to invest in that.

What would you say to other students if you chose dual studies?

It's worth it. Bring the necessary bit of ambition and discipline and you have two high degrees in no time and can get off to a career.

Apply to Tomik + Partner. You will not regret it. We are a digitally very well-positioned law firm, with versatile medium-sized clients and a friendly team.

We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you Mr. Karaman for taking a look at your everyday life and your studies. We wish you continued success and are already keeping our fingers crossed for your Master's and exams!

Good in the pandemic

Good in the pandemic

Complimentary lunch at Tomik + Partner

The law firm Tomik + Partner has been offering its employees a free lunch three times a week since November. This is freshly cooked and delivered by the Hotel Hollmann in Halle. The Corona pandemic also has good sides for the law firm team. Due to the Coronabe restrictions, it is difficult to take care of yourself during the lunch break. Employees can choose from two dishes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday is stew day. For all dishes, dessert and always a fresh salad can be chosen. The food is served in portions on porcelain plates. The convectomat in the gastro kitchen of the tax haven of the law firm ensures that the food comes hot on the table. Distances and corona protection measures are of course adhered to. In addition, high-performance ventilation units are also available in all break rooms of the firm. "It is important to us that our employees are well cared for at lunchtime. At the same time, it is also important to us to support the local gastronomy in the crisis. This has once again made us creative. We have always come up with a lot of ideas so that our team can do our best," explains Dr. Roland Tomik, head of the law firm, with satisfaction about the commitment. "The food tastes really good and I'm always looking forward to signing up for the new menu," says Erkan Karaman, a dual student at Tomik+Partner, visibly satisfied with the lunch service. "That's a very great appreciation that I haven't experienced in any law firm before." Since the offer is very well received, there should also be lunches for everyone in the firm in the future – Corona or not.   The law firm Tomik + Partner has been offering its employees a free lunch three times a week since November. Protecting the team is a top priority

Protecting the team is a top priority

Since 28.12.2020 at 12:00 o'clock the district of Gütersloh is in an even stricter lockdown. For example, exit restrictions now apply between 22:00 and 05:00. It is unclear how long the virus and its limitations will continue to accompany us. It is clear that they are meant to protect all.

The law firm Tomik + Partner takes Corona and the protection of all employees since the beginning of the pandemic very seriously. For example, investments have been made in high-performance ventilation systems for all meeting and common rooms, all employees receive free FFP2 masks, disinfectant hangs on all entrances and sanitary facilities, and the spacious rooms make it possible for almost all employees to work in a single office. Thanks to the digitalization of the law firm, employees also have the opportunity to work at a fully equipped home office workplace from home.

Before Christmas, the firm also offered his team and all relatives and clients the offer of a free corona test. A test team from the German Red Cross came to the firm and carried out the anonymous PCR tests under strict hygiene regulations. The offer was accepted with gratitude. And even if the test result was only a snapshot, the employees were more reassured to celebrate their Christmas.

"As an employer, we have always taken our duty of care towards our employees very seriously. In the current situation, it is particularly important to us to do everything possible to protect our team from infections in the best possible way," commented Dr. Roland Tomik on the numerous protective measures taken by his law firm.

"I also like to come to the office every day during this time. We all strictly adhere to the hygiene and distance rules. I feel well protected by the additional protection sands and offers. I am very grateful for this," says Joana Sochart, a tax specialist at Tomik + Partner.
